MOE CARES: BE RESPONSIBLE, BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE

MOE has implemented a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) model of behavioral interventions and supports to ensure our students can engage in a safe and productive learning environment.  

Below are our school-wide expectations for all MOE students.

* Walk

* Dry hands to count of 10 and then leave

* Put toilet paper in the toilet when finished

* Keep water and soap in the sink

 

 

 

BUS

 

 

 

*Seat on seat, back on back, feet on the floor

*Walk to and from bus

*Wait at spot of safety

 

*Keep your eyes out for others

*Use kind words and actions

*Keep your hands and feet to yourself

 

 

*Stay on the sidewalk

*Get everything you own off of the bus

CAFETERIA

Minor & Major Referrals

Examples of Items that Merit Minor & Major Referrals


 Minor or In-class write up

 Same offense 2 times

     First response – refocus

     Second response – draw for red if refocusing for the same type of behavior as before.  In addition, do a minor referral.    

                 No principal action – teacher to make parent contact about behavior.  This can be either a phone call, note,  or write-up sent home.


  • Defiance/disrespect

  • Talking in class

  • Running in the hall

  • Touching others in annoying ways

  • Constant disruptions during learning/instruction time

  • Incomplete homework or class work

  • Being someplace other than where the student is supposed to be

  • Excessive noise in the hallways, bathrooms, cafeteria, etc.

  • Gum chewing

  • Lying

  • Cheating

  • Foul language (“cuss words”)


 Major        (Office Referral)


  • Fighting (Physical)

  • Putting another student in harm (violent intent)

  • Destruction of school, personal (teacher or student) property that cannot be repaired or cleaned up by the student

  • Bullying (chronic)

  • Acts that are sexual in nature

  • Chronic misbehavior with previous parental contact

  • Theft (use good judgment to determine if this is a minor or major offense)

  • Arson

  • Bomb threat

  • False fire or other safety alarm

  • Weapons

  • Medications

  • Tobacco

  • Lighters

  • Alcohol

  • Foul or abusive language directed at others


STUDENTS SHOULD NOT BE SENT TO THE OFFICE (UNLESS AN EMERGENCY – FIST FIGHTING, ETC.)

WHEN POSSIBLE PLEASE NOTIFY THE OFFICE PRIOR TO SENDING A STUDENT IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION

A phone call to the student’s parent should be made before a student is sent to the office except in the event of a fight or other major issue.

PARENTAL CONTACT SHOULD BE ONE OF THE FIRST FORMS OF DISCIPLINE USED BY A TEACHER.

STUDENTS ARE NOT TO BE SENT TO BIP FOR DISCIPLINARY REASONS WITHOUT PRINCIPAL APPROVAL.
